Tips from the Donald

17 11 2009

In The Apprentice episodes we have seen so far, Donald gives some entrepreneurial tips that relate to the groups’ tasks in some way. Your task – Choose one tip and discuss how you can relate it to your business experiences so far.

Episode 6. Know What You’re Up Against
“Negotiation is a very, very delicate art. The big thing in negotiation is to try and figure out your opponent otherwise you’re going to look like an idiot and lose big.”

Episode 5. Stand Up For Yourself

“You’ve always got to stand up for yourself, you just have to fight for yourself, because basically nobody else is going to fight for you.

Episode 4. A Deal’s a Deal

“Once you make a deal with somebody it’s really important to carry it through. You start developing the wrong reputation; it makes it impossible to make future deals. Once you shake hands that should be it.”

Episode 3. The Art of the Deal

“Negotiation is a very, very delicate art. Sometimes you have to be tough, sometimes you have to be sweet as pie, you never know, it depends on who you are dealing with.

Episode 2: Always deal with the boss

“Making deals can be tough. I learned at a young age that you have to deal with the boss. It’s very simple: deal with the boss wherever possible.”

Episode 1. Location, location, location.

“I have always thought that location is important but the people behind the deal are much more important than the location. I would much rather have a really smart talented guy doing the deal in a not so good location, than an idiot doing the deal in a great location, because you’ll make money every time.”

Hamlet

16 11 2009

hamlet

We’ve started reading an introduction to Hamlet, getting to know the characters and familiar with the language Shakespeare used in his plays. We also watched part of the excellent animated BBC production of the play, and will be using the animation to reinforce our understanding of the story.

We will be working in drama on some scenes from Hamlet using the original language. So stay tuned for future uploads!

9 11 2009

Why use ‘groundling’ level swear words to insult someone when you can now curse them in style and wit. The Shakespeare Insult Generator will provide you with many fine examples with which to give your opponent a verbal “dressing down”.

We have started researching information for our report on Shakespeare. If you need some extra information you can check out these good sites

Today we were introduced to the life and work of Shakespeare. We are going to delve into the story of Hamlet and explore the influence of Shakespeare’s work on our modern day language and culture.

Many of Shakespeare’s plays have been adapted to the screen. In fact, even the Twilight movies/books have been directly influenced by Shakespeare as quoted by the books’ author in this interview here:

If you wanted to review some of the things we learned about Shakespeare today, you can access the Brainpop video for free along with the quiz, activities and extra information. It might come in useful for you when you write your report to come on Shakespeare.
